Does the initrd img file get built during kernel rpm installs?

I have an older system working fine with root on raid1 and a new giving me grief. I note that the 2.4.29 system has /lib/raid1.o in initrd and the
new troublemaker running 2.4.30 does not.

FYI I work remotely, have someone inexperienced walk through a simple
install (non raid); then I log in and convert things to raid1. I have done this successfully 3 times in the not too distant past.

I am trying out the 2.4.29 kernel now on the new system, copied over
from the old one... if that works I think I will rpm -e the newer kernel,
reinstall it, and see what ends up in the ramdisk image.

Nothing like rebooting every ten minutes...
