What did it do?
On my system, when it got to EVMS at 20% it stalled (like before),
except then there was a flurry of disk activity and then after a few
seconds it continued. When it stalled, I switched over to the console
that had the outgoing log (4 I think) and verified that no error
occurred.
Also, this on a P-II or P-III at 500 mhz right? So that would put
that system at about 5 years old? [It's possible I'm confusing you
with someone else, if so, what kind of hardware, and how old is it?
And did it work reliably on TSL 2.2?]

When the CD boots, instead of just hitting Enter, type: linux
ide=nodma
Can anyone else with a failed installation stopping at 20% of the
EVMS step try with the instructions above and confirm if you are able
to complete the installation?
this did unfortunately not work for me.
