Typically, 32-bit Linux distros run very well on Opterons - and usually
benchmark a good bit higher, compared to the same distro on comparable
Intel hardware. There may be some issues with chipset recognition or
drivers, depending on the MB, but usually it's not something impossible
to get running with a little ingenuity and help.
I have not tried out Trustix on our Opterons, but other 2.4 and 2.6
based 32-bit distros rock on these servers. My suggestion is just to
give it a whirl, and let the list know if you have any install/runtime
issues - this might good timing to maybe get some hardware recognition
rolled into 3.0, prior to official release.
As for a native x86_64 port, the developers might post about that
thought ;)
