yes

You can test and see if you gain any by doing it. The theory is that the
SMP kernel should be somewhat faster on your system. I have not tested
it though.

You should manually fix the lilo.conf to not include referances to the
firewall kernels. I would boot the new kernels first and verify that
they work for your setup first.
