I've found 2.6 to be very, VERY finicky on a lot of hardware,
especially older hardware. In many ways, 2.6 feels flaky, unreliable,
and not finished. I haven't seen problems like these in years, and
then it was usually in dev kernels (odd #s). Problems with 2.6 is
actually why I started looking into Mac and *BSD. I haven't switched
anything away from Linux yet. [And, Mac OS X (10.3.x at least,
haven't retested on 10.4) can be crashed by rsyncing a lot of files
over the network. :( At least I could reliably crash it when I was
trying to backup some data from a Linux box to a Mac drive.]

In my case, other hardware issues (and a great sale w/rebates)
prompted a hardware upgrade, so many of my problems with 2.6 are not
a moot point. Based on my experience, if you want to run Linux, and
you have older hardware, use 2.4 kernels and you'll have good results.
