We focused on having the option save time with sane defaults and not having to go through all the options even if you plan to leave them unchanged. Viper uses swup as back-end, while anaconda uses rpm. As swup is a bit on the slow side, awaiting a rewrite for speed, this makes things feels slower than with anaconda. A speedup is planned but getting 3.0 out was also a priority. On the other hand, swup makes it easy to handle mirrors, different installation media, resolving of extra packages etc. Swup is there to provide flexibility, and any enhancements needed will make swup better long term, both for the installer and for the installed system. c -- Christian H.
