Is it TSL 3.0? I had similar problem when tsl 3.0 came out few months ago. I don't know why but TSL 3.0 grub's didn't like my hardware while tsl 2.2 was working with no problems. The hardware was PIII 733 Intel chipset. I was able to install TSL 3.0 on a different machine with no problems. I guess it is a BIOS related. Try installing it on different hardware to see if it works.
