Sorry if I wasn't clear. Yes, I did change my postfix config, about 6 weeks
ago, when I installed spamassassin (and sqlgrey) based on suggestions from
this forum. I followed directions at that point and added the lines shown to
my postfix configuration, except it referred to a different port (12501, I
think). The latest update has either changed the default port on spamd or in
my config, so I then changed my port # in postfix.conf, but I am still
getting the error, even though postfix can now communicate with spamd.

I'll research some more, but sent it to the list to see if someone else
experienced the same issue with a recent upgrade for spamd or postfix (both
of which according to swup were upgraded recently)
