Hello all,

I have an interesting problem that I would appreciate some insight on.

The system is a TSL 2.2 box swup'ed current and provides mail and web
services. It is colo'ed, so access is somewhat restricted.

In some cases, when rebooting the machine, I am unable to ssh into the
machine. Specifically, the error I receive in PuTTY is "server refused
to allocate pty".

I've googled the error, but haven't found anything that I would describe
as a definitive cause (one that I can fix). Some sites reference a
problem with not having /dev/pts entries set up properly. However,
because the error does not occur on every reboot, I'm reluctant to make
any changes to the system, especially since it is a production box.
I've also thought it could be related to a hardware issue (memory or
processor), especially since it is an 'intermittent' issue.

Does anyone have an idea as to what the problem might be, what area the
problem might be in, and how to prevent this from happening in the future.

I'll be happy to provide more information upon request.

Thanks in advance,

Greg Brown
