To get into the e-machines BIOS, try some of the following options while the
EMACHINES screen is on, ESCape, TAB, F2, and DEL. I think it is a
combination of ESCape and then DEL. I don't remember exactly, though, but
getting into the bios will allow you to change the boot order(which should
be floppy, then hard drive).

I too want to thank everyone who participated in upgrading my Linux system.
Today when I brought up my computer, I ran into intractable problems, and
have no CLUE how to fix them.
When my Windows system crashed a few weeks ago, I spent half a day with a
tech from Microsoft, cleaning it up -- and it has worked since.
However, two things happened to the provisions for booting:
1. Since -- on advice -- I reinstalled Windows (over itself), the Windows
Setup program over-wrote the Master Boot Record, destroying the LILO dual
boot arrangements I had in place; and
2. The tech had me modify the boot sequence (as set up in BIOS -- ?? -- ))
so that, first it shows the "EMACHINES" screen (as it always did and, I
presume, always will); then the table of what hard drives, CD ROM, etc, I
have in this computer; and then it jumps to the Windows Startup Menu
("Normal" "MS DOS" "Command line" "Safe Mode" etc.), where I have to hit
<Enter> to finish booting.
Eric prepared me a Linux Boot Disk, saying that until someone can help me
restore the (new) LILO, I'll have no built-in dual-boot arrangement --when
I want to use Linux I'll just have to boot with the boot disk. Which, in
principle, could work just fine.
Unfortunately, with the new configuration of the provisions for booting,
the computer IGNORES the floppy drive during bootup.
A. I tried getting into the BIOS to change the order in which the computer
asks for things during bootup.
RESULT: About a third of the first BIOS Setup screen comes on, and then
the computer jumps to the table of hardware, which it shows for half a
second, and then it jumps to the Windows Startup Menu.
B. I have not succeeded in getting into the BIOS. I have yelled for help,
somebody told me another trick for getting into EMACHINES's BIOS, but it
too doesn't work.
C. I can't get into Linux by any method I've tried so far.
D. The resources which I can reach by telephone (which I have tried so
far) haven't given me a way around any of these problems either.
I appeal for help.
I'll try out emailed suggestions (if I can figure out what they tell me to
DO).
But I fear this will require hands-on intervention. Please get in touch
