I don't really get it either. I used the "system" group exclusively to get away from having to deal with it. I suppose that it must have had a pupose for someone... I just can't see the value.


For what it's worth I've always associated GROUP with an application i.e. it groups the particular security concerns (user/role/permissions) for that application. Then if the turbine security database is moved to a central location managed by flux in standalone mode you do not have to duplicate user details across multiple web apps (which in turn could lead to single sign on for apps).
