Currently maven.src.dir defaults to ${basedir}/src, rather than taking its
value from the pom. In the short term, I'd like to remove the use of
${maven.src.dir} from the check-source target, and replace it with the
previously proposed maven.sourceDirectories.fileset.
Longer term, we need to make a decision about one vs many source
directories. Short term, lets just fix the issues.
