This is a question I've asked myself for a long time now ... Ideally I prefer 4 spaces but the problem is that there tends to be lots of indentations in XML files and 80 chars is short ... thus when you have to enter some amount of text you don't have much space left.
Thus, I'd in favor of 2 chars ...
