Correct, I saw the same thing on the scarab list, you have to do SELECT 1 FROM DUAL. Look for the posts with the subject "Scarab Problem with Oracle" on the scarab dev issue. They came out around 9/5 - 9/6.
Scarab now lets you set what the validation query is so you can override it for Oracle.
