I got it to work yesterday. The plugin's build-torque.xml defaults to using the the torque-3.0-rc2-dev.jar, so if you're using a different version, you can set torque.jar to, say, torque-3.0-b4.jar.
I've been meaning to get the Howto updated; I'll try to get it done by the end of today, depending how though things go.
