Manager Status

How close to being ready is the Manager functionality?  I'm interested
in using Managers in my application, but I am somewhat wary of the
warning in build.properties that this is still considered experimental.
 
Are other people using Managers?  If so, would you recommend for/against
using them in new applications?  I'd be interested in hearing what
works/doesn't work well.
