Yes you where right,

I was running on sun's sdk 1.3.1 and moved over to IBM's sdk 1.3.0 and
it's working now.

I'am remembering now that there were some problems with sun's sdk and
the libc version in redhat 7.1.

No. Your JVM gives you a segfault. That is your problem. Try a different
JVM
or make sure you installed the one you have correctly.
