Whoops. To be clear, the above indicates that I don't understand the version
numbering scheme. I assumed 2.1b4 was 2.1 final with some extra development
stuff going on i.e. that it would incorporate any bugfixes in 2.1 final.
With 2.1 final installed everything is sweet and tomcat just silently (and
surprisingly quickly) bounces each time I recompile. *Much* more productive and
I'd recommend it to anyone who is finding Catalina a little slow.
