I think that you are right about the formatting issues. I am currently working on merging some changes in from the Fulcrum version that does handle the date formatting. Nothing has been done _yet_ to address the formatting of other field types though.
If you would be willing to take a stab at coming up with a way to handle formatting for other field types, patches are welcome!! :) FYI - The formatting for the date field is handled in the toString() method of DateStringField.
