One thing I have found is if using the ant build, make sure your local 
environment CLASSPATH is set to be empty. The ant build script should pick 
up all the jars it needs to compile your application.

You said you tried using my 2.3 beta. can you let me know what errors you 
are getting with it? it uses torque-3.1 not 3.0 and should only give 
deprecation warnings, not errors. if you get errors please let me know
