Sorry, I meant:
^[a-zA-Z \\.]+$
(+ not ? or * to signify one or more characters. ^[a-zA-Z \\.]*$ will match an empty string.)

While I'm not sure how the turbine related classes handle this, exactly, I can tell you that, in general,
characters withing [] lose their "special meaning", so, the . shouldn't be escaped...
hence,
^[a-zA-Z .]+$
according to standard regexp syntax would be preferred.
