There are a couple of options here

You can get META or the TDK  - which should get you started. I think
META is the preferred option currently.

You can try Antelope which is a sample application -
http://zebra.berlios.de - but the current version is is only in CVS.
This sample also make heavy use of a workflow engine to help - but
some of it does not use the engine and uses plain Turbine.
