To give an update on this:
Stefano will be commiting my changes to Cocoon in the next several
days. Then I have to build a few examples for the Cocoon distro. That
puts me at building some Cocoon examples in the next week, or two weeks
at the very outside. That means by the end of the year, Turbine will
have full Cocoon support ;-)
In addition, if you are on the xml.apache.org lists, Stefano (and
several others of us) are working on a template based system in XML that
allows templates and extensions to those templates, all within XML.
Very fun stuff.
