This is total BS jon. Obviously you were never an IS manager....
Version numbers are very important. IMO we have violated one of the
cardinal OSS rules with turbine. "release early, release often". People
want to have Turbine now but don't want to code to a moving target.

- You can't treat turbine like a black-box and use it as a framework API
if it is constantly changing/fixing bugs adding new features. Granted
we all want everyone who use Turbine to contribute code but this is not
the case. Only 1% of people will ever become active contributors to
this project and they want something to use for free. This does not
mean they are moochers just that they choose not to contribute and may
be working on another project.

- If you have multiple bugs in the code and one is fixed but new
features are added you can't be assured that new bugs aren't in the
code.

In short the theory of code releases and version numbers should be an
excepted fact in Computer Science (it has existed over the last 20
years). Just because OSS software is different doesn't get rid of these
facts.

I don't recall anyone voting on this! It has always bothered me that we
have a ./bin/turbine-2.0.jar. I realize that you had dash for a while
before this but it still doesn't change the matter. FYI I also think
Jakarta an Tomcat 3.0 is also a *very* bad idea.
