Well I am running singletons, within any JDK those never got garbage collected. My test program had an extra waiting thread, so there was time for GC. See yourself, you can use -verbosegc as option for the virtual machine this will print you any garbage collection, plus info on what has been cleaned up. However if the problem occurs and there is a workaround ...it doesnt matter.
