Relative to what ? Maybe Sun JDK 1.2. I did some loadtesting with IBM JDK
1.3.0 relative to IBM JDK 1.1.8 yesterday on a servlet application we are
running. The application had a mean response of 0.4 sec with 1.1.8 and
around 2 sec with 1.3. The minimum response times where the same for both
around 22 milliseconds, while the 1.3 jdk had huge maximum response times
ranging from 30 - 300 seconds. The 1.1.8 had maximum response time around 4
seconds.

This is our application, so your milage may vary. But I think it is a
pretty typical application; some database access, some file access and some
template processing.

regards,

        Gunnar
