Hi everybody!
We are new on the mailing list so, let us introduce ourselves briefly.
We (Rafal, and Tomek aka Scooter) are both 24, and we are in the process
of graduating Warsaw University of Technology, Faculty of Electronics
and Computer Science. We work for a company (a really cool one!:) called
'ePoint'. The company has changed it's name recently (formerly 'Point of
View') and is moving from website creation to creating web-based distributed
applications and e-commerce systems. Plese visit http://www.e-point.pl
if you are interested in what we do and have done yet.
Our current assignment is creating a website for PBK - one of the major
polish banks. This site will have a lot of static content (few hundred
pages) and about 10 simple applications (for news/mailng lists, stock
prices, surveys and such). We could make this site using some technology
we already mastered (like perl or php), but since we will be doing
e-commerce shortly, we decided to do it 'another way'.
Most of our websites are Linux/Apache/MySQL based so it was not long
until we got to java.apache.org and discovered Turbine and WebMacro.
It's clear to us that your framework is the best solution for us.
We hope it will help us to make our application simple, modular, reusable,
easy to extend and maintain.
Our target environment will be Linux + IBM Java 1.3 + Tomcat 3.1 + MySQL,
but since we are heading towards e-commerce we will be also testing
Turbine in WebLogic and/or WebSphere application servers and with Sybase
ASE database server.
We (me, Scooter and other developers) are Free Software enthusiasts and
our company is hoping to grow and fluorish with Open Source (influencing
your managers is the nicest thing about working for small companies),
therefore you can expect us to contribute to Turbine. At first it will
be mostly bug reports and testing feedback, but we hope to come up with
patches as well, as we get better insights into the codebase.
Best regards
Rafal, Scooter
