I second that yes, and have working open source code that does just that.
Checkout the icalendar code. It is in the jetspeed cvs repository.
Check out the "icalendar" module.
The code is in the org.apache.icalendar.test package.
If you want to compile it. The full compile is broken at the moment, but
the test drivers that use the peers should compile.
You could probably just figure it out by looking at the code you can
browse the code at the Jetspeed home page -> Code Repository link.
