I think it's pretty much been decided that a .BAT file should do the trick 
on the Windows platforms, however, if absolutely necessary, you could 
probably count on 85% of users having WSH installed, so if anything needed 
to be written to the registry, or desktop icons created, etc., that logic 
could be written in VBScript or JScript (blech to them both! )
