If you really need to debug, run Tomcat under jdb, set a breakpoint
in the method that causes the problem, and hit Tomcat from a browser.
It's better if you are able to use a browser running on different
machine than your tomcat/debuger are running, because the browser
is very likely to hog the processor while waiting for the suspended
server. 
Jdb is really powerful, but looks ugly and is rather user hostile :).
Use a graphical frontend like DDD for improved experience.
