I also noticed that I do not get back about 2 out of three emails
to the list. Normally it takes about 20 minutes till the echo.
Sometimes it is there in 20 seconds! And sometimes I get a list-mail
a day later... (way after other messages have arrived). Many times
responses arrive before the question...

Hard to say where it is coughing! I myself have an oficial address
with the mbox account as target, a forward to my local address and
its mbox. I'm constantly online! (and get informed on LAN/WAN
outages - luckily very few)

It's either overloads/overflows in some SMTP nodes in between,
router overloads (caching/trashing routing table entries), or TCP
corrupted packages and timeouts. I've observed this happen on
international Internet connections - e.g. on hanging http/ftp
transfers - but have no better explanation :(

On ftp transfers many times it is faster to do two downloads
at the same time. I explain this in that the cached router table
entreis are not trashed as often... You know that IP4 numbers
(32giga) are spread all over the world - randomly; so no wonder
some international routers are having trouble with many open
TCP connections... This is where IP6 should alleviate the problem.
Does anyonw have a better explanation?
