We have working LDAP authentication as a part of our portal project. 
I will be integrating some bits and pieces of code we wrote that seem
generic enought to be useful to everyone. LDAP UserManager is one of
them.
It need some work though. We had classloader problems and it needs a jar
dropped into Tomcat's classpath. There are also other rought edges ...

There is a NamingService in Turbine, you can try using that. Right now
it lacks
support for DirectoryServices (i.e. you can use Contexts not
DirContexs).
My friend Slawek (who did the LDAPUserManager) wrote an implementation
of that. 

I don't have a specific timeline for working on this stuff, I want to
get
the SecurityStuff (DB based) to become as clean and solid as possible.

I guess I could gather the related files together and send them to you,
if you feel like playing with them.
