Velocity has come a long way in a very short time! Two
of the largest OSS Turbine projects have switched from
using WebMacro to Velocity:
http://scarab.tigris.org
and
http://tambora.zenplex.org
The template engine that the core members of turbine are promoting
is Velocity. Support for WM is still 100% but new features that
are being added to Turbine (such as the Pull Service) are usually
functional with the Velocity service.
Within our group Velocity is definitely promoted over WebMacro.
There will be more Velocity users here so you will get
better answers to your Velocity specific questions. And because
of where Velocity lives, in the Jakarta project, we will
undoubtedly have a much larger user base then WebMacro ever
will.
The TDK (Turbine Developers Kit) also leans heavily toward
Velocity because people have chosen to make samples apps
using Velocity not WebMacro.
Ultimately it's up to you to decide what solution is best
for you, but I would strongly suggest you use Velocity :-)
