We are currently using ASE with Turbine & Torque. I posted a patch (
http://sites.netscape.net/ekkerbj ) for torque with sybase specific fixes.
I haven't updated to the latest Turbine lately so I'll do that today, gen
Torque, and repost my patches if necessary. I'll also be hanging out on
IRC.

Subject: Using views to handle complex joins
This is a generic query, but related to torque.
In a couple of Turbine projects, we soon met things
that were, let's say, difficult to do with torque,
such as queries with multiple joins, ORs, etc.
After some thought, I came to the conclusion that
this was NOT a real limitation of torque; the correct
(IMHO) way to solve this should be to create views
in the database that hide all the complexity of
joining, ORs, whatever, and query those views as
simple tables from torque. 1) What is your opinion?
We are starting a new project just now, which will
run on a Sybase DB. Our clients are wary of views,
arguing that they impose a penalty in performance
"just by being there" (that is, the very fact of
creating a view will somehow consume resources in
the database); I believe they are wrong, and that
in fact it will be CHEAPER to resolve those queries
in the DB (which is built for exactly that purpose)
than with Java code. 2) What is your opinion?
Additionally, is there any support in torque for views?
I just define them as tables, but the generated code
has insert, delete and update methods, which clearly
do not apply to views. 3) How could this be addressed?
And finally... 4) Is anybody using Turbine with Sybase?
Any hints, caveats, tips?
Thanks in advance,
