As per my

discussion forum message], TurboMail calls KID to transform a template
outside of any requests (in a seperate thread), which dies if sessions are
enabled as it attempts to get the current locale from the session.
Ticket #485 is similar, but was triggered by the widget subsystem and had
a different fix.
