Are you sure simplejson doesn't decode utf-8? The simplejson homepage says
"the decoder can handle incoming JSON strings of any specified encoding
(UTF-8 by default)". If this doesn't work correctly, you should create a
bug report at http://code.google.com/p/simplejson/issues/list.
