In fact, I think that we should just do things in the most backwards
compatible way that we can for the sake of expediency, and because
it's proved not to be too problematic for users.   But I think I will
add a config option so that those who don't want automatic conversion
into lists can skip it. (A config option which will necessitate using
validators, or using a @as_list() decorator.)
