Okay, so this one is getting out somewhat later than planned. Technically, I
think it's Mar 8 before it leaves my editor. However, since i started it on
the 7th, and I'm going by gamer's rules (I didn't sleep yet, so it's not
tomorrow!), it's sent as of the 7th.

The past week has actually been a pretty busy one. Add in some of the extra
work that got done tonight, and getting this out later looks like it can be
excused.

*What Got Done?
*

   - Google Summer of Code application to be an organization mentor has been
filed. This required setting myself up on the site. Turns out that anybody
wishing to be a mentor also needs to hop into the site and get themselves
set up. More on this below.
   - We've been working with Mark Ramm and SF itself. Thanks to some of the
way we've been doing things, we helped them find some minor problems in the
way the git repositories were being displayed. As of now, they've fixed
those problems, and Mark tells me they've added additional monitoring to
prevent the problems occurring for others. I'd like to extend thanks to Mark
   for doing this.
   - Doing a direct migration of Trac into SF's system, as it turns out, was
not feasible. We've created a turbogears2 project to house the tracker and
code repositories already. The tracker has received some basic configuration
as well. More may be desirable, but we should be able to begin migration.
More on this below, as well.
   - We're transitioning the turbogears.org whois itself. This will relieve
Kevin of having to deal with DNS updates. Kevin, thank you for your trust.
We'll take good care of TG. If we're really lucky, we'll do well enough that
you want to work with us on it full time again.
   - A couple of minor updates to the repositories have allowed us to begin
moving forward. Future installations, for instance, will become as easy as
   'easy_install TurboGears2'.
   - Florent and Christoph have been working steadily on the new server.

*Where Are We Now?*
As you can see from above, what has been a semi-slow transition has gotten
almost alarmingly quick this week. We got a lot accomplished, and the next
two weeks promise to see even more.

For the Google Summer of Code application, we now need mentors to step up
and sign in. Go to
http://socghop.appspot.com/document/show/gsoc_program/google/gsoc2011/userguide#depth_createswpand
get your GSoC profile created. Assuming we are accepted, we'll be
ready
for the next step, which is attaching mentors to our organization. For those
of you who are curious, you can check out
http://socghop.appspot.com/document/show/gsoc_program/google/gsoc2011/userguide#depth_mentapplyfor
the details.

Over at SF, we've got a project created for TG2, and it's at
https://sourceforge.net/p/turbogears2/home/ . The tracker looks like it
manages to provide most of the same configuration options as we had for Trac
(now that I've plugged those fields in). Our goal for now is to start SF
with a clean slate, and actually separate TG1 and TG2 into individual
projects.

The new server is pretty much feature complete. We just need to enable it in
DNS, and let people start poking at it.

*What Are We Doing This Week?*
We're going to manually migrate tickets to SF from Trac. The number that we
have is not large, so we should be able to pretty easily manage the
migration for at least TG2 this week.

The DNS changes, assuming the registrars in question don't manage to muck
things up, will start being visible by Friday.

*What's In The Future?*
That's right, a new segment, and this one isn't as happy. This week I'll
have some free time to continue devoting to TG. From Mar 14 through Mar 25,
though, is suspect at best. We're rolling out a new POS system at work on
Mar 21, and I'm one of the people responsible for the technical backend
support. I don't know how much time I'll have to devote to TG during that
timeframe. I hope it will continue as it has, and let me have a fair amount
of free time at night, but I don't know it will. I'll still post this
status, even if all I can do is say "OMGWTFBBQ". Hopefully it won't be that
bad.
