Carlos Ruvalcaba did two branches on github to support Jinja2 filters
and extensions
Now he provided both the missing test and the documentation.

The main discussion thread is now focused on automatic loading filters
and extensions from a lib subdirectory.
This raised an interesting discussion about creating a
lib.templatetools module where to put helpers, jinja filters and other
template related things.
I think that in the mean time also manual filters loading is a
valuable addition by itself and an isolated enough change that it
doesn't have contraindications.

Does anybody know any good reason for not pulling the commits from the
jinja2 repositories for inclusion in the 2.1.2 release?
