Actually, retina scan isn't in common use any more. People found it uncomfortable and weren't too keen on having a laser shined in their eyes.

Iris scan is a big deal. It's very accurate and reasonably quick. Plus there's no invasive laser, only a mild IR beam which you can't even see. The OKI IrisPass device is very sophisticated and hardly intrusive at all. It might even capture both irises at once.

In case you hadn't guessed, I worked for a biometrics consulting company for a while and my current employer uses fingerprint biometrics in their healthcare sso product.
