The following headers (and all variants) failed to work for me in IE6
using automatic cache control (and of course only a unique dummy
variable causes the update when IE is set to never re-validate):

HTTP/1.1 200 OK
Date: Wed, 07 Dec 2005 23:30:41 GMT
Server: Apache/1.3.33 (Debian GNU/Linux) PHP/4.3.10-15
Cache-Control: no-cache, no-store, must-revalidate, max-age=0
Pragma: no-cache, no-store
Expires: Wed, 07 Dec 2005 23:30:41 GMT
Last-Modified: Wed, 07 Dec 2005 22:30:35 GMT
ETag: "16039-8a6-4397628b"
Accept-Ranges: bytes
Content-Length: 2214
Content-Type: text/html; charset=iso-8859-1

for the record, that's the HTML 1.0 header (Pragma: no-cache) 1.1
header (Cache-Control:no-cache and Expires) and IE extension
(max-age=0). If someone has a way to get this to work, I'd love to
hear it.
