I don't know the answer. I do know it's remarkably hard to figure out what format the DataController should return and therefore whether to redirect. I started out wanted to smear some Ajaxy goodness onto the DataController, but that became hard when I realised I couldn't detect whether the request had asked for JSON formatted data in a clean way (I suppose I could inspect the CherryPy data, but then if I ever get my butt in gear and have the Accept header trigger JSON format when it only contains text/_javascript_, I'll be out of luck).
