DataController is *ultimately* meant to be used in apps and not just as a database manipulator (CatWalk does that quite admirably). However, I'm very certain it doesn't have enough extension points and things right now. (And, even worse, its default templates can't inherit your project's master template yet!) When I do get to documentation for that, I'll try to make it very clear that DataController needs to evolve as people find new requirements in their apps.
