I prefer None. With regards to the conversion, I believe that if you use
"if_empty" you can get the conversion done... It just isn't done by default.
Yes, but if_empty will raise an error on None.
Perhaps the validator needs to change then? If you're allowed to have
an empty value, the validator should probably change None to "".
