They only work better if someone is dedicated to removing all the cruft, making sure edits aren't made to important documentation and all the other headaches that come with a wiki. If noone keeps it up to date then they can (and do) become stale very quickly. Best to keep it as it is at the moment: Static "official" documentation and the wiki for additional contributions, recipes and the like that can be incorporated into the next version of the official docs.
