Interesting.  It also works here from the command line (either pydoc
turbogears.widgets or pydoc -w turbogears.widgets), but if I use pydoc
via its HTTP server (pydoc -p or pydoc -g), it breaks.

Sounds like a "something else," and a pretty minor one at that.
