I actually found that it ran better under mod_python, altho this was just on my laptop, but the build times were significantly smaller running under apache with mod_python ( something like 0.129sec standalone vs 0.021sec mod_python )
Also, if I repeatedly hit refresh, the standalone version would have spikes where it was more like 0.5sec, and the mod_python instance never went above 0.09 no matter how much I abused the refresh button.
