I ran into this a bit ago, and it really bugged me that there were the two cookie types. I made a half-assed attempt to convert between the types for my purposes, and went on.
I took that code and cleaned it up a bit. I doubt it is bulletproof, and it mucks around with the internal class variables, but it is probably better than starting from scratch. If you make improvments, please contribute them back.
