I'm thinking the best way to go about this, is to create a "recipe" or a howto where we can work off each other while we build it, then others can leverage our work in their own projects. The mappings from imported files to each of our database backends will be quite different.
I did a bunch of looking around at what many applications (pc, mac, web) export, and vCard, v/iCal, and Outlook CSV will provide the most coverage for a first cut at an address book import tool. Aesthetics and ease of use play a large role in the project I'm working on. So from here I can start developing the interface for the user to upload vcards (probably as a zip file), and other needed files. If someone else wants to start looking more into the backend and what library to use for dealing with vCards/Cals etc that would be great. Perhaps we should be building this out more into the TG Wiki so we don't clog up the mailing list? Few sites of interest for the backend on top of what Christopher mentioned: http://vobject.skyhouseconsulting.com/ http://www.devoesquared.com/Software/iCal_Module http://www.exchange4linux.org/billworkgroup/home http://www.imc.org/pdi/ Oh, any good tools out there for scraping a Hotmail Address book? (You can't export it, big surprise...) --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "TurboGears" group.
