ok... now I'm really loosing my mind!
2 Test-files:

test.kid:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd";>
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml";
    xmlns:py="http://purl.org/kid/ns#";>
        <head>
                <title>test</title>
        </head>
        <body>
                <br />
        </body>
</html>

and test2.kid:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd";>
<html xmlns="http://www.w3c.org/1999/xhtml";
    xmlns:py="http://purl.org/kid/ns#";>
    <head>
        <title>Test2</title>
    </head>
    <body>
                <br />
    </body>
</html>

The test:
>>> template = Template(file='test.kid')
>>> template.serialize(output='xhtml')
'<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd";>\n<html
xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml";>\n\t<head>\n\t\t<title>test</title>\n\t</head>\n\t<body>\n\t\t<br
/>\n\t</body>\n</html>'
>>> template2 = Template(file='test2.kid')
>>> template2.serialize(output='xhtml')
'<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd";>\n<html
xmlns="http://www.w3c.org/1999/xhtml";>\n    <head>\n
<title>test</title>\n    </head>\n    <body>\n\t\t<br></br>\n
</body>\n</html>'

hm... maybe something with the tab and space-mix (we all know that
python does not like it... but this is a stupid template and NOT a
python-script)
